Speed River was in full action Saturday night at the USATF High Performance Meet at Occidental College in Los Angeles as well as in Windsor to kickoff the 2011 401 Distance Series.

Leading the way was Taylor Milne posting an impressive time of 3 minutes 37.20 seconds in the men’s 1500m championship.  Milne took charge early in the race, positioning himself in second behind the pacer running strongly before being overtaken in the last 100 metres to finish 7th in a top-notch field. Milne will be back in action Saturday as he attempts to break the Canadian Record in the 2000 metre at the Speed River Inferno at St James Catholic High School. 

The Speed River steeplechase women recorded personal best results, with Genevieve Lalonde leading the way in 9 minutes 55.01 seconds to place second in section A of the women’s 3000m steeplechase.  Lalonde’s time bettered her previous personal best by over two seconds, and is only four seconds away from the current Canadian record of 9 minutes 51.01 seconds held by Carol Henry.  Dana Buchanan ran 10 minutes 5.71 seconds to win the second section of the women’s 3000m steeplechase, while Meredith Macgregor and Lydia Willemse placed 5th and 6th in 10 minutes 13.83 seconds and 10 minutes 15.86 seconds respectively.  Buchanan and Macgregor also posted personal best times.  All four women will be next in action in the women's 1500 metres at the Speed River Inferno. 

Back in Ontario, Pan Am Junior standards were crushed by Ross Proudfoot and Chris Dulhanty.  Proudfoot posted a personal best time of 3 minutes 46.70 seconds to place 4th in the men’s 1500m.  Chris Dulhanty ran a breakthrough race in the men’s 3000m steeplechase placing 2nd in 9 minutes 6.60 seconds.
