T & F Recap: Proudfoot sets record in 3000mPublished by
Geneva, Ohio - University of Guelph runner Ross Proudfoot finished off the regular season of his varsity career with a bang becoming the fastest ever CIS runner over 3000 metres with his clocking of 7 minutes 53.02 seconds to win the Spire D1 Invitational in Geneva, Ohio. Proudfoot blew away the field in the final kilometre to win the race by over four seconds. Proudfoot's teammate Aaron Hendrikx was close behind in fourth place in 7 minutes 58.11 seconds. The Gryphons had a string of outstanding performances at the meet in addition to Proudfoot and Hendrikx, as three other Gryphons bettered CIS automatic qualifying marks. Katelyn Ayers and Sophie Watts both bettered the standard in the women's 1000 metres. Ayers crossed the line in third place in a time of 2 minutes 45.36 seconds with Watts right behind in 2 minutes 46.12 seconds, Heather Petrick bettered the equivalent time in her one mile race with her time of 4 minutes 46.11 seconds.
